Pinturas de la reconocida artista Rosa Navarro González, nacida en Granada, fueron exhibidas como un homenaje póstumo en su memoria, el primero tras su muerte en el 2012, mientras que la joven Letty Tousignant, originaria de Jinotega, exhibió parte de sus obras por primera vez en Estados Unidos.
Más de un centenar de paisanos disfrutaron de la muestra realizada en el salón principal de la Embajada de Nicaragua en New York el sábado 11 de abril. Las dos artistas nicas embellecieron con sus obras la sede de la misión diplomática a través de sus pinturas, en las que ellas reflejan sus emociones por la patria, el exilio, la vida y la belleza de la naturaleza.
Rosa Navarro González nació en Granada, Nicaragua, en 1936; a los 27 años de edad se trasladó a New York donde estudió Arte y Diseño; en 1999 se convirtió en la primera nicaragüense en recibir la Medalla de la Libertad que otorga el Senado Republicano de Estados Unidos, en reconocimiento a su extensa obra artística y en el 2000 fue honrada por el Instituto Cultural Rubén Darío en Washington D.C.
Letty Tousignant nació en Yalí, Jinotega en 1982. Creció rodeada del paisaje nicaragüense que le inspira pintar cielos, montañas, pájaros y árboles; empezó a escribir poesía en su tierra natal, donde perteneció a la Asociación de Poetas de Jinotega; en Costa Rica se integró a un grupo musical, donde fue la vocalista y allí descubrió su pasión por la pintura, que pronto fue apreciada en exposiciones que realizó en hoteles y restaurantes. En el 2014 se instaló con su familia en New York.
Los asistentes, procedentes de New York, New Jersey y Estados vecinos, disfrutaron también de una exhibición de monedas antiguas de Nicaragua y Estados Unidos, algunas con más de 100 años de existencia; degustaron bocadillos y bebidas que ofreció el Consulado y aprovecharon la ocasión para solicitar su Identificación Consular, útil para identificarse ante las autoridades estadounidenses.
Esta actividad cultural fue una gran oportunidad para hacer contactos de negocios y sirvió para promocionar actividades tales como un viaje a Atlantic City el domingo 26 de abril, que organiza la Fundación Pro Nicaragua para ayudar a una escuela de Managua; una presentación artística de Carlos Mejía Godoy y la banda Cuneta Son Machin el 24 de mayo, organizada por ExponicaNY; una comida que harán los caballeros para homenajear a las madres el 30 de mayo; juegos de baseball y softball, formación de un grupo folclórico, dos picnics de verano y el ascenso al rascacielos más nuevo y alto de la ciudad, el Freedom Tower, para alzar la bandera de Nicaragua y cantar: “Ay Nicaragua, Nicaragüita…
La exhibición de pinturas y monedas antiguas, fue una actividad organizada desde Facebook por el grupo Nicas en NY y NJ Unidos, en coordinación con la Cónsul General de Nicaragua en New York, María Deyanira Téllez Velásquez. El grupo de la red social aglutina a unos 600 nicas residentes en New York y New Jersey. La mayoría procede del norte de Nicaragua, escenario de la guerra civil; de Managua, ciudad devastada por un terremoto en 1972 y de otras regiones del país, afectadas por la pobreza, todos conectados por su amor por la patria.

Successful art exhibition in the Nicaraguan Consulate of New York

Paintings the recognized artist Rosa Navarro González, born in Granada city, were exhibited as a posthumous tribute to her memory, the first behind his death in 2012, while the young Letty Tousignant, originally from Jinotega, exhibited some of her work for the first time in the United States. More than a hundred fellow compatriots enjoyed the exhibition in the main hall of the Nicaraguan embassy in New York City on Saturday April 11th. The two Nicaraguan artists embellished with their works the headquarters of the diplomatic mission through ther paintings, in which they reflect their emotions for the homeland, exile, life and beauty of nature.
Rosa Navarro González was born in 1936 in Granada Nicaragua; at 27 she came to New York City to study at the School of Art and Design. In 1999 she became the first Nicaraguan woman to recieve the Medal of Freedom awarded by the Republican US Senate in recognition of her extensive artistic work, and in 2000 she was honored by the Ruben Dario Cultural Institute in Washington DC.
Letty Tousignant was born in Yali, Jinotega in 1982. She grew up surrounded by the Nicaraguan landscape that inspires her to paint skies, mountains, birds and trees; She began writing poetry in her homeland, where she belonged to the Association of Poets of Jinotega; in Costa Rica she joined a band, where she was the vocalist and there she discovered her passion for painting, which was soon appreciated in exhibitions held in hotels and restaurants; in 2014 she settled with her family in New York.
Attendees from New York, New Jersey and neighboring states, also enjoyed an exhibition of ancient coins from Nicaragua and The United States, some over 100 years old; they tasted snacks and drinks offered by the Consulate and they took the opportunity to apply for the consular identification card, useful to identify themselves to the US authorities.
This cultural event was a great opportunity for networking, and served to promote activities such as a trip to Atlantic City on Sunday April 26, organized by Pro Nicaragua Foundation to support a school in Managua; an artistic presentation of Carlos Mejia Godoy and the band Cuneta Son Machin on May 24, organized by ExponicaNY; a meal that will prepare gentlemen to honor mothers on May 30; baseball and softball games; the creation of a folk group; two summer picnics and the climb to the newest and tallest skyscraper in the city, the Freedom Tower, to hoist the flag of Nicaragua and sing “Ay Nicaragua, Nicaragüita …
The exhibition of paintings and ancient coins, was an event organized from Facebook by Nicas in NY and NJ United, in coordination with the General Consul of Nicaragua in New York, María Deyanira Téllez Velasquez. The group brings together about 600 Nicaraguans living in New York and New Jersey. Most of them come from northern Nicaragua, scene of the civil war; Managua, devastated by an earthquake in 1972 and other regions, all of them connected by their love for their country.
